Catskills: Indian Head Mountain


Overstuffed weekend, similar to a previous trip post using a well-worn route I’ve yet to grow tired of. This time around, I somehow managed to convince Alan to join me on my unofficial goal to hike as much of the Catskill peaks over 3500’ as I can in winter conditions. The tally is currently 8!

Itinerary was roughly to ride to Prediger trailhead from Poughkeepsie, set up camp, stash the bikes, go up and over Indian Head mountain, feast, and knock out. Wake up early and zip back to Poughkeepsie to catch the 4pm Metro North train.

Alan's rations for the trip. Salami + cheese WRVT unfortunately unridable Springtown Rd bypass Joppenbergh bridge by the Rosendale/Stony Point border Hurley Mtn Rd Platteclove Mtn Road closed to road traffic for the season. Thankfully, with no accumulation. Bikes stashed. Switched into hiking mode. Conditions on the Devil's Path Ledge close to the summit of Indian Head Mtn
